I think that it will help them.
If they are competing for the playoffs or division, he will give them a great bat in the 3 or 4 spot. When he leaves at the end of the year, they will get 2 draft picks as compensation. Draft picks don't always work out and they gave up some good players, but it could work out.

If they are out of the playoff race, he will be a valuable player to offer at the trade deadline. They should be able to acquire good players in return by the trading dealine.
